You can stop other people from using your nickname by registering with the NickServ (Nickname Server) service. Registering is very simple and registration takes less than a minute to complete. In addition to protecting your nicknames from unauthorised use, NickServ allows you to save settings for things like channels and other services. Registering your nickname even allows you to send offline messages to other registered users and receive messages (or 'memos') while offline. To register your nickname with NickServ, type the following into the WebChat client below: /msg NickServ REGISTER password email Note: Replace 'password' with the password you wish to use for your nickname and replace 'email' with a valid email address. After you have registered your nickname with NickServ, you will have to log in (or 'identify') each time you connect to IRC. To identify, simply type the following in the WebChat client: /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password Note: Replace 'password' with the password you specified when you first registered your nickname with NickServ. Do you have more than one nickname? Well, you don't have to waste time registering each one individually. You can use NickServ's 'GROUP' command instead. Once nicknames are grouped together, you will be automatically identified for each nickname in the group once you identify. To group a new nickname with an existing one, type the following in the WebChat client below: /msg NickServ GROUP nickname password Note: Replace 'nickname' with existing nickname you would like to group the new nickname with. The existing nickname must already be registered with NickServ. Replace 'password' with the password for the nickname you would like to group with.
